AdGraam vs Captions (2026): AI Editor or Full Ad Stack?
The short answer
Pick Captions if you film yourself and want an AI editor that cuts, captions and styles the footage, or an AI twin for social content, from $24.99 a month. Pick AdGraam if you run paid social for a D2C or e-commerce brand and need static ads, UGC-style and product video, competitor ad recreation, 200+ models and Meta analytics in one workspace. Captions prices its avatar video at 16 credits every 6 seconds, so the Max plan's 500 credits cover about three minutes a month. AdGraam is free to start, then charges credits per generation with the price shown before every run.

Pick AdGraam if you run paid social for a D2C or e-commerce brand and need static ads, UGC-style and product video, competitor ad recreation and Meta performance data in one workspace. What is Captions in 2026?
Captions launched in 2021 as a mobile app that captioned talking videos. The company behind it, founded by Gaurav Misra and Dwight Churchill, renamed itself Mirage in September 2025 after raising more than $100 million at a $500 million valuation. The app kept the Captions name. In March 2026 Mirage raised $75 million in growth financing from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, and TechCrunch cited $28.4 million in in-app revenue over the prior 12 months. The Captions homepage claims 20 million users.
Three changes since 2025 matter if you buy ads:
- Mirage Studio is now part of Captions. The brand ad tool launched in June 2025 has been merged into the Captions web app, per the homepage FAQ.
- AI Ads from a URL. Since November 2025 you can paste a product URL, edit the script and choose an avatar to get a UGC-style ad. Scripts are capped at one minute and 10 to 800 characters.
- Mirage Avatar X. Announced on July 28, 2026, it generates face, voice and motion in one pass and now powers every Captions avatar and AI twin. Captions says a twin needs about ten seconds of footage.
The rest of Captions is a strong AI editor: the changelog shows a rebuilt AI Edit engine in January 2026, multi-clip edits, a long-to-short Clips tool and a chat-based editor. Tesseract lets ChatGPT and other agents edit video on your computer. Ads are one use case among many; its solution pages run from e-commerce to podcasters, educators and real estate.
What is AdGraam?
AdGraam is an AI ad platform for D2C and e-commerce brands, built around the creative loop: find what works, make variations, read which ones win.
- Creative Generator: product URL to 20+ on-brand static ads per run, in feed, story and square sizes.
- Copy Ads: rebuilds a competitor's winning video ad (hook, beats, pacing, on-screen text, motion) for your product with new footage and cast, never their footage, faces or logo. Follow competitors' Meta ad libraries to spot ads running 100+ days, or browse the free Ad Library.
- Playground: 200+ image, video and audio models behind one login, including Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0, GPT Image 2 and ElevenLabs.
- Flow Builder: a visual canvas for your ad production line that an AI builds from chat, with storyboards and batch runs.
- Video Agent: writes the script, recommends a model per shot and prices the whole ad before filming.
- Meta Ads Analytics: read-only ROAS, CPA, CTR, hook and hold for every video, audience splits, a Scaling Score and anomaly alerts.
There is also an AI avatar library for UGC-style presenters. Frido, Arata, Snitch, Powerlook and Neeman's are among the brands using AdGraam.
How much does Captions cost for ad testing?
Captions' plans page in its help center and credit guide (last updated September 21, 2026) list:
| Plan | Price | Monthly credits | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 60 to 200, one-time | Basic editing tools |
| Basic | $9.99/month | 200 | Script generator, teleprompter, captions and dubbing, eye contact |
| Max | $24.99/month | 500 | AI Edit, chat editor, Clips, AI avatars, up to 30 AI twins |
| Frontier | $69.99/month | 1,400 | Faster generations, top tier of generative models |
| Frontier 2x | $139.99/month | 2,800 | Twice the Frontier usage |
| Frontier 4x | $279.99/month | 5,600 | Four times the usage; top-ups allowed |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Bulk credit discounts, seats, account team |
Listed prices are iOS prices; checkout can show local currency, and yearly plans are discounted.
Now the credit math. The credit guide prices Prompt to Video, the tool that renders a talking-avatar video with B-roll and edits, at 16 credits every 6 seconds. A 30-second ad uses 80 credits. Max's 500 credits cover about six of those a month, and Frontier's 1,400 about seventeen. That is before AI Edit (10 to 40 credits), chat edits (2 credits a message plus 1 per action) or generated B-roll: a 4-second Veo 3.1 clip costs 64 credits.
Four rules from the same guide shape the real cost:
- Credits are spent whether or not you export. Drafts you throw away count too.
- You can't buy extra credits on standard plans. When you run out, you upgrade. Top-ups exist only for Frontier 4x and legacy Teams and Business accounts.
- Rollover is generous. Unused credits carry over, up to three times your monthly allowance.
- Cancelling forfeits the balance at the end of the billing period, and a downgrade cuts it straight away.
Captions' cancellation page also says monthly plans are non-refundable. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, refunds and cancellations go through Apple or Google.
AdGraam pricing: free to start with no credit card, and new accounts get free credits. After that you pay credits per generation, and every run shows its exact price first. Teams that want volume or a guided setup can book a demo.
What do Captions users say?
Captions' iPhone app holds 4.7 from about 38,000 US ratings. On Trustpilot it has a 4.4 TrustScore from 463 reviews as of September 26, 2026, but the split is wide: 67% five-star and 21% one-star.
Reviewers praise responsive support, an easy interface and accurate captions. One-star reviews from August and September 2026 repeat five themes:
- Charges after cancelling, often on subscriptions bought through iOS.
- Credits used on generations that never finished.
- No way to test the AI features without subscribing first.
- AI output that didn't follow the prompt.
- Slow replies from support.
Captions replies publicly to many of these. Read them next to the credit rules above: when every generation spends credits, learning the tool costs money.
Where is Captions the better choice?
Credit where it's due. Captions wins clearly if you need:
- An editor for footage you shot. AI Edit cuts, adds B-roll, music and styled captions in one pass. AdGraam isn't built to edit your raw camera footage.
- Captions and translation. Styled captions and translated subtitles in 100+ languages, plus dubbing and lip dub.
- A phone-first workflow. Teleprompter, eye contact fixes and pause trimming in one iOS or Android app.
- A personal AI twin. Up to 30 twins on Max, built from a short recording.
- A cheap start. Basic at $9.99 and Max at $24.99, with rollover for slow months.
If you're a founder filming daily content on your phone, Captions is hard to beat for the price.
Where does AdGraam win for D2C performance teams?
A performance team needs many ad variations a week, in several formats, based on what already works, and a way to see which ones won.
1. Paste a competitor ad, get your version. Copy Ads breaks a winning ad in your category into hook, problem, demo, proof and CTA, then rebuilds that structure for your product with a new cast. Captions starts from your footage, a prompt or your product page, never from a proven competitor format.
2. Paste a product URL, get a batch of static ads. Captions' AI Ads turns a URL into one avatar video. AdGraam's Creative Generator turns it into 20+ static ads in Meta placement sizes, and the Video Agent handles the video side.
3. Choose the model per shot. Captions offers its avatar model plus a curated set of third-party models. AdGraam gives you 200+, so a product close-up, a UGC scene and a voiceover can each use the right model, priced before the run.
4. Build the production line once. In Flow Builder you chat to build a flow (product input, script, image, video, voice, music, stitching), approve storyboard frames before any video renders, then run it across a batch of products or angles. It also works from Claude and other AI assistants via MCP.
5. See the price before you spend. AdGraam shows the price of each run up front, and the Video Agent's ready-to-film card waits for your approval before any credits are spent.
6. Read the results in the same place. Connect Meta and see hook rate (3-second views) and hold (25/50/75/100% watch depth) for every video, a Scaling Score per campaign and alerts when CPA spikes. Captions stops at the exported file.
As Rohan Ganatra, Founder & CEO of Socialsense.ai, put it: "AdGraam cut our creative turnaround from days to minutes. We can launch more angles, react faster to what is working, and scale performance without growing the team behind the ads."
Can you use Captions and AdGraam together?
Yes, and for founder-led brands it's a natural split. Film and edit founder content in Captions for organic channels. Use AdGraam for paid: static batches, UGC-style and product video, competitor formats rebuilt for your product, and the Meta data on which angle to make more of. A Captions video that runs as an ad shows its hook and hold in AdGraam's analytics like any other creative.
Which should you pick?
Pick Captions if your main output is you or your founder talking to camera, you post organic short-form video every day, or you need captions and translation more than ad volume.
Pick AdGraam if you're a D2C or e-commerce team whose job is paid social: more angles, more formats, faster reactions to the data, without adding designers, editors or creators.

Key takeaways
- Captions is the app; Mirage is the company behind it since September 2025. Mirage folded its brand ad tool, Mirage Studio, into Captions and shipped the Mirage Avatar X model in July 2026.
- Captions is strongest on footage you already shot: AI Edit styles, captions in 100+ languages, eye contact correction and a mobile app rated 4.7 from about 38,000 US App Store ratings.
- Do the credit math. Prompt to Video costs 16 credits per 6 seconds, so a 30-second avatar ad uses 80 of Max's 500 monthly credits. Standard plans can't buy extra credits; you upgrade.
- Captions ends at an exported file. As of September 2026 we found no static ad batch generator, competitor ad research or ad performance analytics in its plans or help center.
- AdGraam covers the loop around the video: product URL to 20+ static ads, Copy Ads for competitor formats, 200+ models, Flow Builder, Video Agent and read-only Meta analytics.

Is Captions the same as Mirage?
Mirage is the company; Captions is its app. The company renamed itself from Captions to Mirage in September 2025 to position as an AI research lab for short-form video. Its brand product, Mirage Studio, has since been merged into Captions, and its newest avatar model is called Mirage Avatar X.
Can Captions make an ad from a product URL?
Yes. Captions' AI Ads feature takes a product URL, drafts a script and renders a UGC-style video with an AI avatar. Scripts are limited to one minute and 10 to 800 characters. AdGraam also starts from a product URL, but returns 20+ static ads per run from the Creative Generator and builds video ads through the Video Agent or Flow Builder.
Does Captions connect to Meta ads?
We found no ad account connection in Captions as of September 2026. Its export flow downloads the finished video to your device, and you upload it to Ads Manager yourself. AdGraam connects to your Meta ad account in read-only mode and shows ROAS, CPA, CTR, hook and hold for every video, audience splits and a Scaling Score per campaign.
How does AdGraam pricing work?
AdGraam is free to start with no credit card, and new accounts get free credits. After that you pay with credits per generation, and the exact price of every run is shown before you run it. Teams that want volume or a guided setup can book a demo.
Can I use Captions and AdGraam together?
Yes. A common split is Captions for founder-led organic content you film on your phone, and AdGraam for the paid side: static batches, UGC-style and product video, competitor formats rebuilt for your product, and the Meta data that says what to make next.
