What is Vary in Recraft Studio?

Vary is an image variation feature in Recraft Studio, the design workspace from Recraft, announced on November 6, 2026. You select an existing image and Studio generates alternatives without a written prompt, in one of two modes.

Recraft's announcement put it this way: "Four directions you didn't think to ask for." The post says Vary is now in Studio and tells users to select any image, then choose Vary direction or Vary details.

Recraft has not yet published a longer write-up, a changelog entry or documentation for Vary. What is known comes from that one post.

What are Vary direction and Vary details?

Vary direction creates new compositions and ideas from a selected image, while Vary details changes only the small things. Both start from an image you already have, and Recraft says neither needs a prompt.

The post does not define "small things." It does not say which attributes Vary details can change, such as color, props, background or lighting. It also does not say whether each run returns exactly four results, though the opening line refers to four directions.

Vary release date and availability

Vary went live in Recraft Studio on November 6, 2026, according to Recraft's official X account. The post says "Try it now," and Recraft has not mentioned an invite or waitlist.

Recraft has not said which plans include Vary, or whether it reaches the mobile app. The Google Play listing was last updated November 2, 2026, before the announcement, and does not mention Vary.

API support is not announced. The post covers Recraft Studio only.

Vary pricing and free access

Recraft has not published a credit cost for Vary. Studio's model selector shows credit costs for models, as Recraft noted in a November 5 post on GPT Image 2.6, where default settings cost 10 credits and the range ran from 4 to 57 depending on quality and resolution. That is a different feature, so do not assume the same figures apply to Vary.

On plans, an independent Rundown AI overview says the free plan advertises 30 daily credits, and generated assets are public and not licensed for commercial use. Paid plans (Basic, Pro, Teams) are for private commercial asset creation, and rights apply to assets made while subscribed, not earlier free ones. Vary vs other Recraft Studio tools

Vary sits inside a Studio that already hosts several models and editing tools. Recraft's own models include V4.1, V4.1 Vector and V4.1 Flash, per its Google Play listing, alongside external models such as Nano Banana, GPT Image, Seedream and Flux.

The practical difference is that Vary starts from an image, not a prompt. Recraft has not said whether it uses a particular model, or follows the model that made the original.

What to watch next

Several basics about Vary are still unknown. Recraft has not said which plans get it, what it costs in credits, or whether it is coming to the API or the mobile app.

Also watch for documentation that sets the limits of Vary details, and whether Vary works on vector output. The Rundown AI notes that a raster result does not become a clean vector just because it was made in Studio, so vector behavior is worth checking once details appear.
