What is Luma Photo Reframe?

Photo Reframe is an image feature from Luma AI that fills the space around your image so it fits a new format. Luma announced it on November 5, 2026 in a post from @LumaLabsAI, its official account.

The post reads: "One shot, from Instagram post to album cover, shop page and bus stop poster. Photo Reframe fills the space around your image so it fits wherever it's going."

Luma has not published a changelog, a model name behind the feature, or a technical write-up. The post is the only detail so far.

Luma Photo Reframe release date and availability

Photo Reframe was announced on November 5, 2026, and the post tells users to "Reframe it in Luma," which points to availability in the Luma app. The post does not mention a waitlist, a plan restriction or a staged rollout.

Luma has not said whether the feature is available through its API. It also has not said which plans include it.

What Photo Reframe does

Photo Reframe fills the space around an image so the same picture fits a different frame. Luma's post gives no further detail on how it works.

Luma's own examples span very different shapes: a social post, an album cover, an e-commerce page and a large out-of-home poster. Luma has not shown before and after outputs in the post, so quality on products, faces or text is unknown.

According to The Post Flow, a third-party site, Luma's Ray3.2 page lists Reframe as one of four workflows on that model, alongside text-to-video, image-to-video and Modify Video. Photo Reframe may bring a similar idea to stills, but Luma has not said whether the two share a model.

How to use Photo Reframe for ad creative

For performance teams, the obvious use is placement coverage. A single approved hero image often needs a 1:1 feed version, a 9:16 Stories or Reels version and a wide banner. Filling in new space around the image could mean less cropping when the product sits close to an edge, though Luma has not shown this.

Where it could fit in a workflow, based on Luma's own examples:

• Turning one product shot into several placement sizes without reshooting.
• Adapting a social image for a shop page or retail poster.

What to check before relying on it: whether the generated edges stay consistent with lighting and texture, whether logos and packaging near the border survive, and what output resolution you get for print sizes like a bus stop poster. None of that is documented yet.

Luma Photo Reframe vs other Luma tools

Photo Reframe adds format adaptation to a Luma toolset that already covers video generation and targeted image edits. Luma's Layers feature edits parts of an image while preserving the rest, which is a different job from filling space around an image.

Adobe's Firefly also offers an Expand function for images, and Premiere Pro has Auto Reframe for video, per the sources above. Luma has not published a comparison against either.

What to watch next

Watch for plan and credit details, since Luma has not said what a Photo Reframe generation costs. Output resolution and the list of supported aspect ratios matter most for ad teams.
