Instagram and Reels ads usually show the caption and button but leave the headline out, so the headline field is hidden here.
A preview, not the app itself. Check the final ad in Ads Manager before it runs.

Save the preview as a PNG for a client, a deck or your team chat.
How an Instagram ad is laid out
In the feed, an ad shows your username with a Sponsored label, then the picture at anything from 1.91:1 wide to 4:5 tall. The button sits in a strip right under the picture, then the like, comment, share and save icons, then the caption. The caption is cut after about two lines with a more link, and there is no headline at all.
Stories and Reels fill the whole phone screen at 9:16. Stories put your name at the top and the button at the bottom. Reels add a one line caption, a wide button and a column of buttons down the right side.
Which placement to check
If your campaign uses Advantage+ placements, the same ad can land in all three. Check each one: a 4:5 feed picture does not fill a Story, so the app crops it or adds a background around it, and text near the edges of a 9:16 video can sit under the Reels buttons.
For vertical ads, the safe zone checker shows exactly which parts of the screen the buttons cover.
Tips for Instagram ads
Instagram is a visual feed first, so the picture does most of the work and the caption backs it up.
- Show the product or the result in the first frame; most people never read the caption.
- Lead the caption with the hook, since only the first line or two is shown.
- Use 1080 x 1350 for the feed and 1080 x 1920 for Stories and Reels.
- Keep logos and prices out of the top and bottom of Stories and Reels.
- Pick a button that says what happens next, like Shop now or Book now.
Ad text and image limits
What fits before Instagram cuts it off on a phone.
| Part of the ad | What fits |
|---|---|
| Caption | About two lines, near 125 characters, before "more" in the feed |
| Reels caption | One line before "more" |
| Headline | Usually not shown on Instagram; the button strip carries the call to action |
| Feed image | From 1.91:1 wide to 4:5 tall; 1080 x 1350 takes the most space |
| Stories and Reels | 9:16 (1080 x 1920), with the top and bottom kept clear of text |
Questions people ask
Is the Instagram ad mockup free?
Yes. It is free with no sign up, and every download is a clean PNG with no watermark.
Why is there no headline on the Instagram preview?
Instagram feed, Stories and Reels ads usually leave out the headline you set in Ads Manager; the button strip and caption carry the message. The headline field comes back when you switch to the Facebook feed.
What size should an Instagram ad be?
Use 1080 x 1350 px (4:5) for the feed and 1080 x 1920 px (9:16) for Stories and Reels. A 1080 x 1080 square also works in the feed.
How long can an Instagram ad caption be?
The caption can be long, but the feed shows about two lines, around 125 characters, before more. Reels show one line. Put the part that matters first.
Can I preview an Instagram Reels ad from a video?
Yes. Add the MP4 and the Reels preview shows its first frame with the caption, button and side buttons over it. To check the whole video against the buttons, use the safe zone checker, which plays it.
Do you keep my pictures?
No. Everything is drawn in your browser and nothing is uploaded to AdGraam.
Is this tool made by Instagram or Meta?
No. AdGraam is not part of Meta and this tool is not made by Meta. It follows how Facebook and Instagram show ads today, but the apps change, so check the final ad in the Ads Manager preview before it goes live.
